  • Brasfield & Gorrie completes $23M hospital project
    Brasfield & Gorrie LLC has finished a $23 million renovation and expansion of the Oktibbeha County, Miss., Regional Medical Center, the company said today. The Birmingham-based construction company said it added an 87,116-square-foot bed tower and a 99,884-square-foot parking deck, and renovated about 32,000 square feet of the existing hospital, among other upgrades.   • Xerox subsidiary opening Nashville call center
    Dallas-based Affiliated Computer Services Inc., a subsidiary of Xerox, is opening a call center near the Nashville International Airport. This week, Metro Nashville issued a building rehab permit to make way for a call center on the sixth floor of the Highland Ridge III office building at 545 Marriott Drive. The permit estimates construction work at $950,000. Harvest Construction Co. is leading the work. Last year, ACS acquired Nashville-based CredenceHealth, which provides software that captures and analyzes patient data to assist hospitals and health plans.


  • Housing authorities get $52 million
    The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded public housing authorities in Massachusetts $52.2 million in funding that will be used to make major improvements to their apartments. These grants, which totaled nearly $1.8 billion nationwide, provided through HUD?s Capital Fund Program, provides annual funding to housing authorities to build or renovate public housing in their communities. This funding can be used to make large-scale improvements such as new roofs and to make energy-efficient upgrades to replace old plumbing and electrical systems, HUD said...


  • Cincinnati Bell loses $30M in 4Q
    Cincinnati Bell Inc. (NYSE: CBB) posted a net loss of $30 million in the fourth quarter as it announced that it was considering ?structural, capital and financial alternatives? for its growing data center business. The results, which reflected goodwill impairment and restructuring costs, compared with a $19 million loss in the same quarter a year ago. The company reported a loss per share of 17 cents, compared with earnings per share of 7 cents in the year-ago quarter. Revenue was $365 million, up 1 percent from $363 million in fourth-quarter 2010...

  • Paycor looking for new downtown Cincinnati HQ
    Paycor Inc. is on the hunt for new office space. The Queensgate-based payroll services company has spent the past six months scouring the region for a spot to put its more than 400 employees. CEO Bob Coughlin said he?s hoping to make a decision on where the company will locate within the next 60 to 90 days. ?We?re looking at all options,? Coughlin said. The company has decided against moving into space downtown, because one of its requirements is free parking for up to 700 people, as Coughlin expects employment to expand in the coming years...


  • Opponents of Kyo-ya Waikiki project to proceed with zoning appeal
    Honolulu's Zoning Board of Appeals will allow an appeal by environmental groups of a zoning variance to allow Kyo-ya Hotels & Resorts to redevelop the Westin Moana Surfrider's Diamond Head Tower in Waikiki to move forward. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the board decided Thursday to allow Hawaii?s Thousand Friends, Ka Iwi Coalition, Surfrider Foundation, KAHEA: The Hawaiian-Environmental Alliance proveed with their appeal based on the arguments that a proposed 26-story hotel would interfere with their enjoyment of Waikiki Beach...


  • Auburn farm hopes to be casino site
    An Auburn livestock farm could be the latest contender for a resort-style casino in eastern Massachusetts. Paul Krasowsky, one of the owners of a 750-acre family farm in Auburn and Oxford, said following the recent death of his dad, Peter Krasowsky, and his uncle, George Krasowsky, the rest of the clan decided it was time to consider other options for the land just off Route 395. ?This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the family and the timing is right,? he said. ?We?ve been thinking about it ever since the state began considering legislation to allow three casinos in Massachusetts...


  • Commercial development planned for Hawaii's Mauna Kea slope
    The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands is proposing commercial development, new home sites for Native Hawaiians and reforestation for 56,200 acres along the windward slope of Mauna Kea on Hawaii's Big Island. The Hawaii Tribune Herald reports the agency's Aina Mauna Legacy Program for the land, which extends 19 miles along the Hamakua Coast on both sides of the Saddle, Mauna Kea Access and Keanakolu-Mana roads was outlined in a final environmental assessment released this week. The newspaper reports the plans call for up 200 homesteads on the Hamakua side of Saddle Road, and 500 acres of commercial development, including retail space, office space, a 20-unit lodge, restaurant and visitor center on either side of Mauna Kea Access Road.
